An apart-hotel development in Lower Marsh, Waterloo, using 30ft prefabricated units as the building system. The development features 20 self-contained studios over five storeys.
The scheme sits within the Lower Marsh conservation area and on a Network Rail Freehold Site close to Waterloo Station. As the site would need to be repossessed by Network Rail in the event of an emergency at Waterloo Station, the brief required that the whole building could be dismantled within 28 days. This created several challenges for the team when designing container connections, as well as the layout of the bolt-on staircase and the steel frame for the lift shaft.
Price & Myers services included substructure design, design of the external access stair, lift and landings, and advice on the modification of the containers to form an enlarged ground floor reception and café space. Our project team also liaised with the Network Rail Asset Protection team to secure approval for the design and construction methodology.
