An Edwardian house in the Highgate area of North London has been transformed from three individual flats into a large family home, with a separate self-contained flat located on the top floor.
Various alterations to the property over the years had created a disjointed plan, with limited daylight available, and staircases encroaching into the living spaces at each level. A central stairwell has been inserted by cutting into one of the upper floor levels, and a new skylight floods the entire space with sunshine.
A new rear extension with large, glazed doors on three sides creates an open plan living, kitchen, and dining space. A diamond-shaped skylight located within the dining area allows daylight to penetrate deep into the rest of this space.
